TeliaSonera Upgrades LTE Network to 100 Mbps

TeliaSonera announced upgrades to their 4G LTE service up to 100 Mbps in 2011. This upgrade is expected to generate an average download speeds of between 20 to 80 Mbps. According to some related sites, LTE upload speeds averaged 1.7Mbps, which meets Skype’s recommendations for Basic video calling (0.3Mbps), HD video calling (1.5Mbps) and Group video calling (0.5Mbps). Tests were carried out from March 21st to March 25th 2011, with network measurement probes conducting testing at 30 minute intervals.

John Curley, CTO of Epitiro, said that although the company did not know when the LTE service was experiencing peak demand, download speeds of 10-15Mbps were recorded at times, suggesting there was some evidence of service contention. The mean download speed measured was 36.1Mbps.(Mobileeurope). The average download speeds of 36.1Mbps, nearly 10 times faster than that measured at TeliaSonera's HSPA network, and equivalent to most fixed line broadband services in the European market.

TeliaSonera's equipment supplier, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks claimed peak download up to 100 Mbps on Telia's LTE network. Telia's LTE network covers the central parts of Stockholm's districts Alvsjo, Kista and Hammarby Sjostad, and continues to 25 areas in Sweden during Q3 2011, includes Lund, Vasteras, Malma, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Linkoping. Other cities will be covered by the network by the end of the year.

TeliaSonera, Telenor and Tele2 are already offering commercial LTE services in the 2.6GHz. And now by using both spectrum bands expected to offer the better quality of coverage and speed. As we know, the 800MHz band's provides better indoor coverage, and more spectrum in the 2.6GHz band, would increases higher speeds and performance of their broadband internet connection services.
