Japanese mobile Internet company, NTT DoCoMo launched its LTE service in major cities such as Nagoya, Osaka and Tokyo. NTT DoCoMo has been successfully 3G (HSPA) in most of Japan.
DOCOMO began developing its own experimental LTE system in 2007. Testing started in July 2007 and downlink rates of 250 Mbps were confirmed outdoors by March the following year. In general, connectivity is approximately 10 times faster than DOCOMO’s current 3G service with HSPA.
March 2013, NTT DoCoMo plans to invest USD 3.6 billion dollars for the LTE network and are expected in March 2015 at least half of their customers will upgrade from their 3G to 4G services.
